Welcome Scarborough back after it's redevelopment and head down to the Sunset Markets - food, drinks, music, shopping and of course - the sunset!
If you’ve been avoiding Scarborough in recent months due to the ongoing construction works, now is the perfect time to get back down there.
Not only has summer finally arrived, and the long-awaited revitalization of the beachfront is taking shape, but Scarbs is now home to a beachfront market every Thursday night! And they are AWESOME!
The Scarborough Sunset Markets runs every Thursday until mid-March, transforming the Scarborough ampitheatre into a hub of live music, arts and crafts, pop up stores and of course food and drink.
Have a quick swim or just soak in the salty air and be mesmerized as a ceremonious “sunset song” marks the magical moment the sun melts into the ocean.
Then follow your nose to the food stalls with more than 18 international cuisines dishing up treats such as Argentinean barbecue, Vietnamese Bao, Japanese dumplings, French crepes, fresh coconuts and Greek sweets.
Alongside them local creatives will be selling their wares including art, jewellery, photography and handmade goodies.
While you’re there, check out the stunning timber exterior of the new Scarborough swimming pool complex, which will also house an Italian restaurant, or pop in for a drink at one of the many bars still open for business. And of course a pop up bar too!
The markets are the initiative of the Scarborough Beach Association, which is hoping to entice both locals and those further afield back to the beach as the $100 million redevelopment, which is transforming the iconic coastal strip, moves towards its final stages.
We can’t think of a better way to spend a summers evening!
